Paul Davies - Head of Business Controls, Selfridges & Co We identified a requirement to conduct a detailed and impartial assessment of our physical and technical security infrastructure across our retail and corporate estate in early 2018. Without internal subject matter expertise, we decided to employ the support of an independent consultant to support us with this assessment. Hazard 360 Security Consultancy were referred to me by a number of senior security and loss prevention leaders in the retail sector, and other independent consultants, as a specialist in this field. From the first engagement, I found Alan Smith (Hazard 360, Technical Consultant) to be highly engaging, passionate and pragmatic. His approach to the project was diligent and proportional, working with multiple internal stakeholders to explore our systems and processes without creating any inconvenience or distribution. The presentation and reports at the conclusion were highly detailed and have exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend Alan, and subsequently Hazard 360, to any business seeking a subject matter expert, with balanced and proportional approach and specialist in his field.”
Chris Aldous, Director - Design Security Limited Design Security Ltd is an independent, professional design consultancy providing comprehensive, cost minimising solutions in safety and security. Utilising an integrated approach and multi-disciplinary understanding, Governments, businesses and individuals worldwide have benefited from our expertise on many wide-ranging projects. Alan has been contracted by Design Security as a security risk specialist providing technical design support to a foremost and sizeable project in Italy. Alan has been responsible for the development and construction of conceptual design notes for managing staff, user group appointments, critical asset designations, security control room configurations, deployment and place of CCTV camera locations, Access Control classifications and Intruder Detection systems. All of these risk mitigation measures have been annotated on architectural drawings all of which are being designed to manage, eliminate or reduce risk to an acceptable level. I have found Alan’s work to be very detailed and he is confident and assured enough to, when concerned about any aspect, to challenge the supplied information. I put this forthright good humour down to the many years he spent in Australia, as it’s a known fact that Antipodeans are very direct and honest! As with any project there are deadlines to meet, and Alan has completed all work he has been tasked within and sometimes ahead of the stipulated time frame. Alongside myself and project colleagues, Alan will continue working with us on this European project, no doubt to his usual high standards, being a very valuable and personable member of the team. In closing, I would have no hesitation on using his experience and expertise on any other future projects. Chris Aldous Email: firstname.lastname@example.org www.designsecurityltd.co.uk/
John Morrison Director Excellentia Excellentia invited Alan to take part in a major project which encompassed the physical security review of twenty-one major distribution centres throughout the UK. The project timeline was to commence in May 2014 and be completed by January 2015 over a nine month period. Alan submitted a project plan grouping the distribution centres into geographical locations in order to maximum the best use of his time, whilst simultaneously reducing travelling times and accommodation costs. The project commenced on Thursday, May 1st and was completed on Saturday, November 1st, 2014. The project was delivered two months ahead of schedule and on budget, and throughout this period the lines of communication were excellent. Alan is meticulous in his reports and strives to make recommendations on a cost benefit basis for the client. The reports submitted for each of the premises were very detailed not only depicting the observations, but also presented recommendations and drawings of how to further enhance the security situation at each location. During the period in which Excellentia have engaged Alan’s services we have found him to be very knowledgeable and thoroughly professional. All of which clearly demonstrates his thirty odd years’ experience in the field of physical security risk mitigation, and is exhibited in the way he conducts business and service delivery. Following on from this project, we have also engaged Alan for further work concerning high value client's private properties and continue to promote his first-class expertise. Mark Stephens – Continuous Improvement Manager We commissioned Alan to complete a full physical security audit at our site in Worcestershire. Alan had a very proactive approach, and took the time to discuss his findings in detail, applying a common sense approach to the security of our building. I would be more than happy to engage Alan again in the future should the need arise. Mark Stephens Continuous Improvement Manager Central Government Sector firstname.lastname@example.org
Emma Shaw, Chairman, the Security Institute Dear Alan, I am writing to thank you personally for your contribution to the updating of the learning material for the Security Institute Certificate in Security Management. We are fortunate to have many subject matter experts in the Institute to call upon to share their knowledge; however finding the time to undertake the detailed review, complete the research and generate the new written material can be time consuming and challenging on top of other personal and work commitments. The Certificate and Diploma are key to the Institute in meeting the organisation's aims to raise professional standards and make a difference. You have contributed significantly to this, and for that I am very grateful. 2013 has been a good year for the Certificate, with student numbers for each intake in January, May and September increasing each time. Our reputation relies on current, well written learning material, and I am proud to be able to promote our qualifications, knowing they are robust and fit for purpose going forward. Once again, many thanks for your support. With kind regards Emma Shaw Chairman, the Security Institute
